The weather station goes back to two balloons a day

The weather station has resumed launching two balloons a day, at six in the morning and six in the evening, after two years in which it managed one launch and often none. Each balloon carries a radiosonde that reports temperature, humidity and wind as it climbs, and most reach about thirty kilometres before they burst.

The readings go into the regional forecast within the hour. The station says the gap in its own record is the part that cannot be repaired: two years of afternoons are simply missing from a series that began in 1954.
